Why Choose Therapy?

Starting therapy can be daunting, but taking that first step is often life-changing. While many people initially come to counselling for a recent trauma or an event they are currently struggling with, for some, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Unlike some other forms of therapy that aim to 'fix' a specific problem within a limited time frame, Person-Centred therapy aims to help you explore the underlying thought patterns and beliefs that can result in poor coping strategies, anxiety, depression or low self-esteem, providing long term change. Therapy is not about being a better you, but a more honest and complete you. It is about learning to hear your own inner voice as distinct from the voices of others who may have tried to control you or hurt you, and cherishing it.

 

How To Choose a Therapist

Worryingly, it is not necessary for therapists and counsellors to be registered, qualified, or even trained in the UK. ALWAYS look for the BACP logo which shows that a counsellor has undergone full training and holds to the ethical standards of a professional body. This means that if you have a complaint about your therapist, the BACP is able to investigate your report.

I am not only a professional and fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and full member of the BACP, I hold an Honours degree in Psychology, and am fully trained to offer online and remote therapy.
